The Great Ridge - Challenging a classic

A day exploring the legendary Peak District's Great Ridge, from Mam Tor to Hollins Cross with professional Landscape Photographer Tom Watkinson & international award winning photographer Lee Howdle. This is going to be a workshop like no other. Although this location has been photographed a thousand times, it is done so for good reason! We will give due consideration to the 'classic shots' as we pass them, understand what makes them so compositionally rich, but then broaden and challenge our skills by thinking outside the box, exploring alternative compositions along the route, with aim to produce more original images. Can they challenge or rival the classics? Let's see! The meeting point will be the Mam Nick car park and exact itinerary will be provided the week previous as is subject to the weather (as we may consider the likes of Winnats Pass for sunrise) Additional locations subject to time would be Cave Dale and Cow Low Barn. On location we will guide you through settings, composition, light, subjects, choice of lens and other elements in order to take compelling landscape images. The group size is limited to 10 persons to ensure each participant has appropriate time with tutoring. We will split the group across tutors and alternate throughout the day to provide varied input. The workshop will last a total of approximately 7 hours, meeting at 7.30am (approximately an hour ahead of sunrise). We will be on our feet all day, so be prepared for walking, but we will not be doing significant hiking elevation (starting at the Mam Tor end). We may decide to descent into Castleton or return along the ridge to the cars on the day. Expect around 10 miles total walk. The workshop would only be cancelled in extreme weather where safety in getting to the meet point, or your safety during the workshop is a concern (e.g. bad snow, or extreme winds). I will give a minimum 5 days notice to any cancellation, so please consider this if making any personal bookings for accommodation (i.e. consider the cancellation policies of your accommodation).
